Recruiter’s Resume Tips
Thursday, April 2nd, 2009Most HR departments receive a lot of resumes, especially in these tough economic times. There are a few common mistakes people make when writing their resumes- some of which can (or will) instantly turn a recruiter off. To ensure you don’t make any of those mistakes, I have put together a list of resume do’s and don’ts.
DO – make your resume clear and concise
DON’T – let your resume go any longer than two pages, and keep to one if possible
DO – tell the truth about your previous experiences and education
DON’T – include hobbies or personal information like your age, marital status, race
DO – proofread carefully and get a friend you trust to proofread for spelling and grammar mistakes
DON’T – use colored fonts or include pictures, this is a professional document, not a middle school project
DO – include a relevant and recent job history
DON’T – include every job you’ve have held since 1975
DO – use action words such as developed, collaborated, managed, designed, etc.
DON’T – list references right on your resume, instead opt for "references available upon request"
